About this coffee
This coffee comes from the “Futureproof Coffee Uganda” project, partly funded by the Dutch government and distributed by This Side Up. The initiative supports Zombo Coffee Partners to become a strong economic driver for farmers in the Zombo district and to raise Uganda’s profile as a specialty coffee origin.
The project is built on transparency: 47 small-scale farmers from nearby washing stations are involved, managing a total of 18,808 coffee trees. Every cent paid for this coffee is traceable, with the largest share going directly to the farmers.
Keen Coffee is a specialty coffee roaster driven by a simple idea: great coffee starts with passion and ends with precision. Every day, the team focuses on sourcing, roasting, and refining coffees with distinct flavour profiles, always aiming to reveal each bean’s natural character.
They work directly with farmers, cupping and selecting top lots while supporting projects that improve quality from farm to export. This hands-on approach is paired with constant experimentation in the roastery, where recipes are tested and optimised to deliver the best possible cup.
Roasting is done on a state-of-the-art, smoke-free Loring roaster. This allows precise, tailored profiles for each origin while reducing energy use and environmental impact. The result is clean, vibrant coffee that highlights the influence of climate, altitude, and soil.
Keen Coffee’s direct trade model began with a partnership with a farmer in Brazil and has since grown into a network of long-term relationships. They pay well above commodity prices (often over 150% of C-market) and focus on transparency, fairness, and quality. Sustainability runs through the whole chain—from how beans are sourced to how they’re roasted and shipped.
In short, Keen Coffee roasts with care for flavour, farmers, and the planet.
